Linked to the Past with JonTron and Egoraptor

Now being a Slacker that spends pretty much all of his time on the internet or playing video games it hard not to love the work of Egoraptor and JonTron. Two talented video game personalities. Egoraptor infamous for his flash animation cartoons and JonTron for his independently run game review website have joined together to make a new internet show called GameCrumps.

What they do is sit around playing video games together as they record the hilarity. It's just two guys cracking wise while playing some Zelda or MegaMan or Kirby.

Now that sounds pretty damn boring to must and I will admit that if I wasn't into gaming I wouldn't even bother with this stuff.

BUT

Some of the music people have been remixing using audio from the videos is freaking AMAZING.

Mix of the Week: Adele vs. Daft Punk

This mix has been floating around the internet for a few months now and I thought I may as well put it up on the Blog for the handful of people that actually read this junk.

This mix is amazing, I want to take it to a nice dinner and read it Russian poetry by candle light. It's smoother than laminated silk and hotter than thermite. It's too damn good.

Carlos Serrano's mash up of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" and Daft Punk's "Something About Us" is ungodly. It's like a little slice of digital heaven on earth.

Song of the Day: "Superman" Lazlo Bane

Again another time where Superman substitutes for the word Perfect.

I'm no Superman basically means I'm not perfect if you couldn't get that without my help.

I dunno, I like pairing up the rare moments I post something with a song I can loosely relate to it. That being said I loved Scrubs, one of my all time favourite television shows I've had the pleasure or watching and rewatching (multiple times). There was some amazing music from the show, too many great moments that were rounding out with a superb song choice backing.

So yeah, that's my song for the day.

Brought back some good times.

I believe in Superman

Captain America: I'm Here to send you back so you can do what needs to be done

Superman: ...I don't know what that is any more

Captain America: Yes you do

Superman: No I don't! My powers aren't working. I can't get to those kids fast enough. I have too many powers in the future, not enough in the past. No matter what I can't make any difference. I just don't know what to do.

Captain America: You and I both know that what makes you Superman isn't your Powers, It's your Heart. That part of you, that part of both of us. The part that seeks out and finds the right thing to do and then does it, no matter what the cost. Do Box office numbers make that any different? Does Hollywood define who you are or do you? Look inside your heart Superman, it's never steered you wrong so far. Look and you will understand why this job is a job for Superman.

Do what you have to do, what you were born to do. Save the World.

That is some moving stuff for an internet show using action figures. Eh, Robot Chicken can get away with it, why can't JustSomeRandomGuy get some rights to have this stuff on Television. Hell The Stan Lee speech about how he still believes in Superman was awesome.

I only bring this old internet gem up because of this.

I believe in you Superman.

I have a different level of Respect for Superman thanks to JustSomeRandomGuy.

Song of the Day: "Louie Louie" - The Kingsmen

Keeping to the Louie post of the day I've selected this old blues bar class from the Kingsmen. Another example where the picture of the musician in your head doesn't exactly match-up to the music. I honestly thought this was a bunch of black guys from Louisiana singing about an old drinking buddy.

Either way it's a cool jam.

Louie - "Daddy's Girlfriend Part 1"

Now if you were to ask me what my favourite television show is? That would be a hard thing to breakdown. I would literally have to separate each in a sub category. Hand to Heart its probably Community. All-Time favourite show.

But if you to ask me what I think is the most important show to watch on television. I would say Louie. Louie is the most honest 22 minutes of television you will see on television today. It is the life ramblings of a divorced single dad living in New York as a Stand-Up Comic. Its some of the darkest and lightest comedy moments. Shows based around important life lessons you learn when you a Jaded middle aged man just trying to get through life.

Now up to this point I was kind of indifferent to the episodes so far. But that's what you get with the show. Some episodes aren't great or ring that close to home to some but there are some real good ones hidden in there. Occasionally one bland episode will have one amazing scene but that's what you get when you make this kind of innovative and honest television. A lot of the show is based off genuine life moments and lessons.

I thought the most recent episode 4 entitled "Daddy's Girlfriend" was one of my favourites.

Simple enough premise, Louie is having Lunch with his daughters discussing the pronunciation of Tyranny and Taxes when his daughter bring up their mother's new boyfriend and then they both just outright ask Louie why doesn't he have a Girlfriend?

Feeling like he owes his Daughters this Louie begins his quest to go out and find a Girlfriend. He notices the very funny Maria Bamford one night doing a set at the Comedy Cellar and asks her out on a date.

One fake reality television clip later after a round of unsatisfactory sex Louie tries to invite her over to meet his Daughters. She immediately sees through him and his game of making her a sort of stand in mum for his kids.

"You're Bad at Sex" was the best way to follow that line.

After that disastrous night Louie starts looking for love around his Daughter's School and he goes into weird creeper mode and starts sizing up all the teachers there. All I have to say is Lily's teacher has amazingly green eyes and a beautiful smile.

Eventually we are introduced to Parker Posey's bookstore clerk character and she is adorable. How could not instantly fall in love with her?

Louie's Final Fist Pump was so naturally awkward it seemed so genuine.

Asking out a girl and the fist pump of success is such a common truth. It's not as confident or as measured as his comedy performance fist pump which is really telling. You know that bit was practised but the fist pump pictured above was so heartfelt and real that you couldn't help but fist pump along with Louie.

God I'm excited for the Part 2 of this little story arc.

I also loved the mock Reality show they filmed for the show. Pictured below is a Man stabbing a woman.

God I love this show.

Song of the Day: "That Don't Impress Me Much" - Shania Twain

You know what, Shut up.

This was popular because of your stupid parents. They bought her album just like everyone else and when they realised their mistake it was already too late. But this happened to everyone and they just carried on with their lives. No one said anything when she sold all those records for her Sassy Country Girl Song.

You know what, I don't have to impress you. I don't have to tell you why I like this ridiculous fucking song. I'm leaving.

If this were a real life altercation I would've stormed out of the room backwards and broken something. Maybe accidentally but I would probably try and make it look like I did it on Purpose.

Then I would say something smug like "Pick that up!"

Yeah, Shut Up.

BATMAN WEEKEND

Well this weekend is all about Batman.

A Person who doesn't have any Superpowers but spends of his parents fortune and money dressing up like an Asshole to go around solving mysteries and punching lunatics in the face before hands them over the Police. He is considered one of the World's Greatest Superheros, right up there next to Superman.

And yet, Batman is still universally Awesome. Because he's a selfish asshole that will fight for what he believes is morally right. Because the man has a Code. Every man should have a Code.

"Be yourself... Unless you can be Batman, then always be Batman"

Song of the Day: "Kiss from a Rose" - Seal

Well I'm off to see the Dark Knight Rises tonight and well for the song of the day I have selected what has to be the Stand Out Batman song ever licensed to the Batman property. This song like Batman is brilliant. It was without a doubt the best thing about Batman & Robin and yeah I'll say it, Seal's greatest song. He knows it, everyone knows it. Kiss from a Rose is a great damn song.

I was playing it in my room one day and my old uncle that was visiting that doesn't speak much English walked past and exclaimed "That's a Good Song!". Isn't that marvellous how a song can transcend language barriers and touch people of other creeds and races.

That's how damn good Kiss from a Rose is.

Steam Summer Sale Madness

In Gabe We Trust

GODD DAMN I LOVE VALVE!

I'm sure I've said this multiple times but I Love Valve. I love their Games, I love Online Community of Steam and I love what they're doing to the Video Game Industry. Which is revolutionising online pc gaming.

I like to think of myself as a sensible game shopper. I would always wait for Games to drop down to a reasonable price or I just played Great Games from the past generation that I missed out on. I wouldn't rent games because I liked to take my time when I played games. I liked to eat it slowly like a fine steak dinner. I would search every room, make multiple saves and try to see as much of the game as possible before I moved onto the next one.

Now I no longer go to retail stores to buy games. In fact I no longer have to wait until they're a reasonable price, that and I am spoilt for the choice of qyality gaming that is available today. I just buy them all off Steam. Steam is keeping PC gaming relevant in this era of Consoles. The Highest Selling Games are always on consoles. Because all the Top Games are bundled with Consoles but with the amount of sales that Steam throw around it won't be long before digital downloads are the way of mass game distribution.

Seriously I have amassed a respectable Steam Library of Games that will sit uninstalled that I bought just because they were on sale and I haven't gotten around to playing them yet.

Anyway, if you play Video Games and have a halfway decent computer, Get on Steam and download some ridiculously priced games. They're selling new games at like half price they'd normally retail. It's insane the savings they're just throwing around on Steam.

Steam Homepage
Steam Sales Packages

Today the Top Sellers are
SimCity 4 for $5 USD
Every GTA Game for $17.5 USD
Every Stalker Game for $11.5 USD

I'm probably going to be too busy to consistently update this blog during these sales. I just noticed Skyrim for PC just dropped down to $45

My Steam Account ID: Dr_Geronimo

I'm usually playing Team Fortress 2, I have like 2,500 hours clocked on that one game over the span of like 3 and a half years. Yes I'm sure Valve own a good portion of my soul.

I should probably get into weapon or level design if I ever want to contribute something important to the game I love so much.

Tom Green is a Genius

Tom Green is insane.... he's an insane genius.

This is a trailer for his finest piece of insanity.

He got that movie made. Tom Green made a movie where he cuts open and wears a dead moose carcass. A movie where he grabs a horse's penis and exclaims that he is a farmer. This was before the internet.

This is a brilliant movie. This is an honest movie of a loser/slacker that does good eventually. But it has some of the most daring gags in comedic movie history. This film is a cult favourite for a reason. It constantly questions your sense of taste in comedy, whether you find an idiot flinging a baby around in the air by its umbilical cord funny. It's shock humour at it's finest.

This movie was released in 2001, 11 years ago. Many years before everyone had high-speed internet and before online memes and communities were established places where people talked to each other. PRE-4CHAN era of the internet.

That's not the only thing he got paid to do. He recorded this song as a joke for his show and got it on TRL. He was then asked to retire the song because it was too popular and they had to promote the new Usher song. Because you know... the music industry is that shallow and greased by label money. Well I'm talking it by his word on the Joe Rogan Experience... frankly I can believe that story.

Tom Green actually had that song voted for by thousands of people. It was number 1 for a week until he was forced to retire it. Being retired on TRL isn't a big deal I guess... It's the fact that he made it there in the first place is amazing. If anything the early retirement from TRL adds to its brief but somewhat inspiring legacy as a joke song.

He does Stand-Up now. In his early stand-up he uses the ultra troll technique. He feeds off people's hatred in the early years. Hell it's just funny watching the crowd slowly turn on him.

However Tom Green is a Genius... His 2010 material and act is hilarious. Its so current and up to date with the problems of today. I never thought Tom was actually this insightful. He's a funny guy when he isn't trolling for laughs, he genuinely earn them the old fashioned way of clever observation comedy.

Tom Green actually has some talent hidden under the veil of insanity. He has good stand-up material. He's a half decent skateboarder and he's also a pretty fierce rapper.
Here is a video of Tom Green Battle Rapping Xzibit. I forgot famous rappers had to prove their were capable of battle rapping white Canadian comedians.

No seriously, Tom Green is pretty damn good at rapping... I can't emphasis how good he is.

Tom Green is one talented insane genius.

Song of the Day: "PONPONPON" - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

This looks like some kind of Japanese acid trip nightmare... and I love it!

Honestly the western world has absolutely nothing on the weirdness / genius that is Japanese Pop culture. They get this kind of stuff daily and what do we have to contest with this level of crazy? Lady Gaga? Well even her ridiculous wardrobe and behaviour have nothing on Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

I swear this is the sole reason the internet was made. Just to share the crazy awesome madness that comes from Japan.

God damn I love Japan.

Japanese Movie of the Week: Gothic & Lolita Psycho

They say this is a gag trailer for the movie, frankly I would rather watch this version than a real "serious" version. It looks too campy to be taken seriously. Some crazy killer Japanese woman with a machine gun saw blade umbrella going around murdering people doesn't sound like their would be any sense of integrity in the film what so ever.

But hey, what the hell do I know about film making?

God damn I love Japan.

Song of the Day: "Karate" - Kennedy

To keep the MMA theme going for the day, I've picked this Electro-funk groove from Kennedy. I first heard it from the Dollar Shave viral video and instantly fell in love with this tune.

If I somehow made it in the World of professional fighter whether it be Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA or Wrestling I would lobby to have this has my walk out music. I'd come out wearing a neon outfit and throwing Karate chops and kicks like Elvis God damn Presley.

The King of the Octogon: The Spider

Anderson Silva proved again why he is considered the Greatest MMA Fighter of all time at UFC 148 with a TKO victory over Chael Sonnen. Chael dominated the 1st round with hi aggressive wrestling tactics but it all came un-done in the 2nd Eound. Sonnen went for a spinning backfist only to have it evaded and he ate a Knee as he sat dumbstruck on the ground.

For 2 years leading up to the rematch Sonnen was talking a crazy amount of smack and got into the usually calm and collected head of Silva.

The lead up to the fight was intense, both men made big claims to completely obliterate one another but in the end Silva capitalised on that one silly mistake and walked away with his 10th consecutive Title defence. The most title defences in the UFC History. While they were heated rivals for the longest time both men showed a great deal of class as they left the Octagon as fair-weather friends, Silva even inviting Sonnen over for a BBQ to show no hard feelings.

What is next for Silva who has basically no real threats left in the Division and Sonnen who had previously stated that if he lost he would leave the UFC. Although that offer has expired Sonnen will be doing a lot of soul searching to see where his career will head next.

Also a shout out to Joey "Karate" Diaz for calling the result on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Mad Flavour has a gift for predicting fight outcomes. Next time around I'll have to put money down on his predictions.
