Earlier this week aired the 14th episode of Season 23 of the long running animated sitcom The Simpsons. This episode is particularly special because it was the 500th episode of the show, that may seem like an ungodly amount unmatched by any other cartoon but I would like to point out there are actually more episodes of the japanese asnimes Poke'mon and Shin Chan which has just a shade under 2,000 episodes itself.
Why this is important is because The Simpsons represent something of a benchmark in animated comedies. They've been around for 23 years and have cemented itself as a Pop Culture staple forever. Even long after all the producers and voice actors are gone the Simpsons Legacy will live on like the Hannah Barbara Cartoons.
Even though there is a general consensus that the Simpsons stopped being funny after around the 10th Season I'd still happy watch any of the new Simpsons episodes over most other television programs. Its declining quality isn't the show's fault, hell after a certain amount of years being one of the consistantly funny cartoons there is just no way it could live up to it's high standards. Saying that, the show is still funny and can still make me smile and raise the odd chuckle.
Though the show is slated to be ending in a few years times due to FOX having enough of paying the voice actors an ungodly amount of money per episodes when they realised they could make the same amount of money if they ran re-runs.
It'll be a momentous day when we say Goodbye to the lovable Four fingered yellow family from 742 Evergreen Terrence. Then again it's not they're not really going anywhere. We'll still have 500+ episodes of re-runs to re-watch every afternoon around the usual time of 6 o'clock for the next 20 or so years but regardless, Congratulations to Matt Greoning on this amazing accomplishment.
Thinking about all those Great moments from the past 23 Years has really gotten me in the mood to watch some of the newer episodes that I've ignored because I just know I'll eventually end up watching them on lonely nights in.
