David Bowie The Real Doctor

Photobucket
Here is a David Bowie piece I threw together with some photos from a Google search in Photoshop.

Whenever I watch Doctor Who I usually think to myself, Why hasn't David Bowie ever been on this show? Its been running for nearly 50 years and not once has the English music icon even appeared on the show. It honestly seems custom made for him as he is of course the Starman Ziggy Stardust. I like to think Doctor Who is influenced by his secret second life and that David Bowie would have his own Time Machine hidden away somewhere in house as he shoots around time and space on his days off, I honestly can't be the only one to think this...

On the Venture Bros television show David Bowie is used brilliantly as the head of the Guild of Calamitous Intent. Under the moniker of 'The Sovereign' he is a Shape shifter and takes the forms of whatever or whoever he pleases. This is a testament to his ability to adapt to new musical styles over his career and also as a nod to his Character as the Goblin King in the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth.

I doubt he'd be up to pretend to be a eccentric space travelling wizard any more these days. He seems to be enjoying his twilight years out of the spotlight, reading up on him I found out he declined a Knighthood from the Queen stating "It's not what I spent my life working for". In Doctor lore there are 13 reincarnations of the Doctor and currently Matt Smith is number 11, while David Bowie is no spring chicken at 65 years old I would love to see the man play the Doctor, highly doubtful but hey the first Doctor played by William Hartnell started when he was 55 so it isn't an impossibility. (Okay I know its not going to happen)

But I would like to see David Bowie in the show, You know it would just validate the series that much more if they had him on it in some fashion or another.

But how would you write David Bowie into a modern version of Doctor Who?

Maybe as a cameo appearance on an episode I'd write him in as a fellow Time Lord renegade like the Doctor but on his 13th reincarnation cycle. He'd be well deserved dapper gentleman who uses a pocket watch to time travel. He's living out his final days helping out other travellers imparting treasures and wisdom from his adventures and just seeing the wonders of the Universe. With his age he's come to recognise the universal appeal and power of music and uses it to communicate with creatures from all over the universe and instils that message into the Doctor to help him on his way.

David could then make a joke about visiting a place on Earth called London where he once spent a life-cycle as an International musician that would sing songs about his travels.

I'd geek out pretty hard if they were to ever do something like that.

Modern Art Revival

Digital Artist Petros Vrellis has made an interactive piece of Van Gogh's Starry night using openframeworks. I expect this to be a screensaver on a Windows OS in 20 years. It's like watching a digital version of the northern lights.

Today My 10 year old cousin asked

"Are Superheroes real"

Oh I remember being that young and idealistic, I also remember being much happier with the world too. He had just watched X-men and Spiderman and was fascinated with both the Wolverine and the Spiderman characters. He said if he had super powers he'd want to combine Wolverine and Spiderman's powers.

Then I told him that if I had super powers I'd want to be exactly like Superman. Because... He's fucking Superman. He's the Perfect Hero! He never loses... Ever. He's Superman and the life of Superman would be pretty fucking awesome. I don't care what the comics say, You're a Superior Being on a planet full of monkey people... Why isn't just crowned King of Earth?

Errrrrgh I got side tracked... Anyway, He'd really taken to the idea that these movies he had watched were accurate re enactments. Which is freaking adorable. I felt really bad that I had to burst his bubble and tell him that Superheroes don't exist. Felt like I was telling him that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny weren't real. I should've lied and said that they're real, kids need something to believe in.

Then he started to name some superheroes and asked if they were real just for reassurance. The conversation went something like this...

"How about Spiderman?"
"No...."
"And Batman?"
"No..... I think.... (insert long boring rant about how he doesn't actually have any Superpowers, rather he's Superpower is being a rich guy)"
"Superman?"
"Nope"
"Hulk Hogan?
"....What?"
"Hulk Hogam?
"....Yeah he's real""

He considers Hulk Hogan a Superhero! That's insane!

Well... He was in Rocky II

How can professional wrestlers mean that much to kids?

I was mad for a split second... Then I remembered my Wrestling Hero as a Kid. Diamond Dallas Page "DDP". I use to see him as a hero, the People's Champion of WCW. Always fighting in the name of Good against the wicked nWo, who were coincidently lead by Hulk Hogan at the time.

DDP had an amazing Smell's Like Teen Spirit ripoff entrance theme though.

After the stroll down memory lane I thought to myself, Hulk Hogan wasn't a true Professional Wrestler... Or "Wrassler" as some pretentious internet fans like to say ironically. He wasn't particularly skilled at Wrestling Hulk Hogan stood on a lot of talented people to be the top dog. He was an average Wrestler at best, Why should Hulk Hogan be revered as a Superhero?

Because Hulk Hogan wasn't just a Wrestler.... Hulk Hogan was a world famous personality. Hell Hulkamania was a lifestyle to some, he was millions of people's role modal, Hulk Hogan was Superman! Hulk Hogan always stood up for the Good Guy, He was always brave and strong in the face of adversity and he never gave up. Kinda like what John Cena is running with these days in current day WWE.

Plus he can make one hell of an Entrance.

God damn Jimi hendrix "Voodoo Child", That's a sweet damn song to come out to.

Writing this has inspired me to remake an old Pastamania joke banner I made for an internet forum graphics contest. Hope someone likes it.

I also remember watching this awful movie.... Good Lord was this ridiculous

Augmented

Some lazy Photoshop layering here... I said I'd do some "art"

Deus Ex is fun as hell though, I'd definitely say it's a pretty damn good sequel to the original. Much much better than Invisible War. Sure the Boss fighting system is a little broken and favour the more Run and Gun play style and doesn't really reward a stealth game as much but it's still pretty damn fun.

The Progression of a Modern Day Han Solo

So back when I use to flaunt my photoshop "talent" on Facebook I use to take silly requests for friends. Like a simple photo of my two friends at a birthday drunk off these faces.

So my Buddies Antony (You've met him before in this previous entry here) and Jarrad are drunk and Antony requested I change 3 things about the photo, add googly eyes to his helmet, a rose and a can of solo.

Now it isn't a great shop effort because I was lazy and was doing a ton of requests at the time but I started playing around with it and this is what happened after I kept screwing around with it.

First I made a silly Solo like poster... Because Antony loves Solo.

Then I turned Jarrad into Emma Stone...

Then I ruined it with a silly internet meme inspired message...

Some days I often wonder if I am making good use of my free time. Then I remember I use to do this on Facebook so my Free time has always been poorly squandered on meaningless projects.

Putting meaning into Pac Man

Pac Man may just seem like a simple game...

But I like to put meaning into things that didn't really have one in the first place.(Look at my Story of Poke'mon's "Villain"Gary Oak)

So at the moment I like to over analyse things and making up stories and theories that fit my own prejudices and views of the world and society in general.

So this is what I think of Pac Man…

Yeah this is happening…

Listen to me Bullshit about Pac Man!!!

Pac Man is your every day guy just like you and me.

And each single pellet represents a measurement of time; Let's say they're days. Now each day Pac Man is avoiding Ghosts all his "Life". So he's living his Life day by day avoiding those Ghosts. Now these Ghosts each represent a fear of Pac Man's life, whether it be insecurity, financial, health, rejection, etc. Just the 4 main fear's in his "Life".

So he's basically trying to get enough pellets of days to level up.

So enough days dedicating to leveling up, so each level could represent a great life breakthrough like surviving an accident, winning an award, graduating, holding your son, etc. But he's going to need a way to conquer his fears if he wants to level up.

Now the POWER Pellets is when Pac Man is INVINICABLE and can devour his Demons. These Power Pellets represent a moment of Clarity and/or Strength in Pac Man's life. He is then able to momentarily conquer and defeat his Fears. One Power Pellet could represent strength like... Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, Battle, A Job, A Steady Girlfriend, Whatever, etc.

And each time he conquers a fear it only comes back later....

But to Pac Man occasionally Life gives you a lemon... or an orange... or a cherry... So it isn't all pain and struggle up to those few ultra awesome power pellet moments in your "Life".

Just make sure when you're in power pellet mode in the game of life Pac Man, you conquer more than just one ghost, be nice to get some breathing space away from those ghosts for a while.

There is a High Score at the end of "Life"

I'm still not sure if any of that made sense but... Here's more Scott Pilgrim bullshit

That is a pretty sweet trick...

Wallace shows Scott the quick dry technique... Which I have yet to encounter in real life.

But something out there tells me that there are "special" people out there.

Honest to god close enough to a super power for me anyway.

Also I was listening to more Kasabian while doing this one...

Touching up a Subspace Date

One of the most memorible moments in the Scott Pilgrim comics is the first time Ramona takes Scott through the Subspace Highway.

Here's the original with... some hideous ugly disfiguration that I made using simple colouring and a stock space background...

This probably took a longer time because I have yet to find an efficently fast way of colouring besides select and fill methods with light touches up on the edges if you're trying to make light tones on skin like on the previous Scott Pilgrim blog entry about Lisa Miller: here

You're Tearing Me Apart Lisa (Miller)

Touched up the Original Black and White Picture, added some colour and shading.... Turned out nicely. Wasn't very complicated but it looks great to me.

The Dark Side of the Rainbow

So...

I watched it the other night, the infamous Wizard of Oz Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon sync up. Its quite amazing at times how these two seperate works sync up perfectly. Some of the tracks like Breathe, Time and Money sync up just too well to be a coincedence.

My favourite sync up moment has to either come from "Brain Damage" with the Scarecrow Dance or Speak to Me / Breathe with the Robot dance.

I'm seriously going to have to buy a ticket now.

A nice digital art piece...

Two of my favourite artists are headlining the Australia Big Day Out Tour, Kanye West and Kasabian, amoung a handfull of other acts I'm really interested in seeing. Like Noel Gallagher post Oasis.

Kanye West makes Amazing Music. Beautifully crafted hip hop tracks that genre sample with amazing expertise. Tracks like Power and Rnaway are just Masterpieces of Rap and sampling. Man is a dreaking Genius... He's an Asshole... BUT HE'S A GENIUS!

Kasabian make awesome music. Just fucking awesome music. It just sounds good. Like I'm listening to some form of mystical hipster rock and roll that was the soulchild of making a modern version of the Beatles... But more Awesome.

Persona 4 the Animation

I love it, love it to pieces. Its all in Japanese and Subtitled and ripped onto the Internet every Friday and translated. I LOVE THE FAN BASE OF THIS GAME!

People go out of their way to help the English Speaking Community of Persona 4. Awesome. I'm hoping to have whatever console I need for the next Persona game. (I think it's a hand heild which sucks)

I played the crap out of Persona 4 on PS2. Here is some Digital distortion artwork, I didn't really do much to this picture, just boosted the overlay, sharpened the flowers and mosiaced the background.

Some Bastion Digital Art (Distortion)

Just made the cut of the Kid Pop a bit more than the original
